An Average Guy

I am just an average guy. I am no one special. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will probably be forgotten soon after I die. But in one respect, I have succeeded as gloriously and anyone as ever lived. I have learned what love is all about and to me that is enough. Love can be compared to an ingredient that you would put into a special dish you are cooking. Without the ingredient, there is not much of a flavor, if you do something without love attached, the feeling of accomplishment will not be the same because the feelings that we need have come from God and He is the God of Love.

Being satisfied with ones life can be like walking through a brick wall. When certain feelings hit me, I often wonder if I am the only one that feels this way. When I feel like there is a golf ball size hole in my chest, I wonder if I am the only one that has gone to bed at night feeling like something is missing. Being average for some people is a good thing but for others, it can make you feel like a nobody.

I remember once in my life when I was famous in Honduras. I owned a professional soccer team and my name or picture was in the Newspaper about every week. Everywhere I went, people recognized me and at first, it was exciting. After a year or so, the excitement went away. I was ready to be left alone. I was tired of all the phone calls for journalist interviewing on their morning shows. I learned an basic lesson during that time in my life. Fame does not fill the empty space in your heart. The joy that fame may bring last only for a short time.

I am 41 and i look back at my life and I see many accomplishments and many defeats. I have had businesses that boomed and others that broke. I have traveled around the world with much enjoyment but after returning home, all we have is memories. I have had many friends and many of them are now dead or drifted away. Many people balance their happiness on the amount of friends they have but I have learned that friends is like a leaf blowing in the wind. One moment they are with you and because of a thousands different circumstances, one day they are gone.

I have come to a conclusion. I only have two in my life that matters or should matter more than anything. God and my Family. The Bible says that God will never leave you or forsake you. This we can count on. Family takes a little more work. Many believe that just because someone is blood related, they will always be there for you but it takes a huge sacrifice on our part also. Once again, this is where Love comes in. As a dad, I realize that if I do not show love to my children then how can I expect them to show love back. If I do not take time with them, they will get used to growing up without me and their friends will become more of a family than their TRUE family. I guess this is why many kids join gangs. They are looking for a family circle and they find it within these gangs.

I know that I will not be remembered 50 years from now but if I am, I hope and pray that I am remembered as someone that loved their family and loved God. I also know that no matter what I do or accomplish, I will have days when I feel alone and empty. People can judge this as being away from God but the truth is, this is just human nature. No matter how good of a christian you are or how spiritual people think you are, YOU ARE HUMAN. We have millions of tiny nerves running through our body and these little buzzards can throw our emotions in a loop without any provocation.

So next time you see someone successful, think about it before you say, "I want to be like him or her". We never know what that person is feeling inside. We never know how happy that person really is. Don't get me wrong, There are some people I know that i would love to accomplish just a little of what they have accomplished especially in the ministry but if I start weighing my accomplishments with theirs, I will feel like mine do not matter and to God they do matter. Not everyone can be a Moses or an Abraham but guess what, if you have accepted Christ in your heart, you will one day be walking down the same streets of Gold in Heaven with Moses, Abraham and the Disciples.

Once again, I am just an average guy with an average life. I can't give you much, but I can show you love.

Why do you hate Spam?

I remember back a few years ago when I hated spam mail more than anything. If I received some type of message in my inbox from someone that I did not know, I would immediately look for the unsubscribe button and if I could not find it, I would send a message demanding to be taken off the list.  I never even took time to read the message, if it was an ad then I did not want it coming in.

The more I spent on my computer trying to learn how to do certain things, the more i realized how complicated it was to do what others was already doing.  I would tell my self how smart some people was to be able to build social networks, create scripts, build online stores, etc.

One day, I read won of the "SPAM" emails and it was an ad that talked about a special script that people could add to their website where someone could send the site to their friends. This was before the Web 2.0 era. The script was only about $5 and I purchased it and added it to my website. In two months, we had over 300 new members on our website. As emails would come in, I would take time to read them. Some were good and others did not interest me but I would not unsubscribe because i realized that these companies send out different types of ads.  It is like watching TV. During a commercial break, you see more than one commercial, and that is how these ad companies work. You get one thing one day, and the next day you may get a different product.

As the internet grew and changed, I was able to keep up with the new technology because of the emails I was receiving from "Spammers".  Many people now believe that I am super smart at computers and I can do about anything but the truth is Spam helped me in a great way.  I would of never learned how to do 80 percent of what I know today if it was not sent to me.  What I learned to do was not to buy the products learn how to do what these people were doing. In other words, they would give me the idea, and I would study it out to see how to do it.

I also created relationships. I would get emails from churches or missionaries or charity organizations and it became very interesting some of the content I was reading. I would sometimes answer them back thinking them for adding me on their list.  I would always end my emails with my pre-made signature which including my own website.  I figured out really quick that if I received an email that I did was not interested in, I could delete it in .00000003 seconds. Wa-La, it was gone.

Today there are many people who are just wound to tight. If they get an unsolicited email, they go nuts. I can just see them chewing out their computer.  Now just to clarify, if I get an email trying to sell me Viagra, I will try to unsubscribe even though those emails are really tough to get away from because most of them are spy related. But if I get a professional looking email from an organization of business, I will at least give it a read. You never know what important information it could have.

The moral of the story is this. If you want to live in a closed up closet world then that is your decision but if you are looking for information, HOW TO'S, or just curios about technology or anything else, stop hating spam. If you don't like something, I am sure you probably can click delete faster than I can.

I am nothing but an Ant

Imagine yourself standing on the moon and looking down at planet earth looking through a powerful telescope. Now you start zooming in and the earth starts getting bigger in your viewfinder. You start seeing the separation of the water and the land. You focus on the area that you live and as you zoom in, you start seeing mountains or valleys. As you keep zooming in, you see start seeing thousands of buildings and then cars and finally millions of people. You have a powerful telescope so you decide to zoom in even more and you can see the millions of blades of grass on a side of a hill. You zoom a little more and you can see the dirt under the grass. You zoom in one more time and you see a tiny ant walking through the blades of grass.

This is actually what we are in this world. A tiny ant in the middle of a huge world which we cannot keep up with. It is so easy to get lost in this world. It is very simple to become someone insignificant and unnoticed. Some people may enjoy hiding in the blades of grass but others feel a need to be noticed and recognized.

How does God look at us? Does notice someone more than another? Does He pick who He is going to watch over more than others? If you read the Bible, you can clearly see in the old testament that God had special relationships with certain people like King David, Abraham, Elijah and others. These men served God and even though they made mistakes, they always had a heart to heart relationship with God.

In the New Testament, God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross for us because basically every human being on the earth could not follow the strict laws of God which required sacrifices.  God required a Major sacrifice and that is why His son Jesus died on the cross for all of us. This means everyone.

Does this mean that I am now a the Queen Ant of the ant hill. NO! I am still an ant, BUT, I am an ant that has been forgiving and one day I will no longer be unnoticed because Jesus is preparing a mansion for me where I am going to live like a KING.

I wonder sometimes why we look at certain people and we see them as spiritual kings on this earth. Without sin, without a blemish in their life, only God knows their heart and people maybe able to hide their actions from the world but God knows everything we do even though we maybe as small as an ant in His eyes. Many Pastors today only preach about prosperity and it even scares me to hear some of them go as far in saying that we can lift ourselves up to the level of God because He expects this of His people. Don't fall for this false teaching because no matter who you are, no matter how much money you have, no matter if you are on television or on the radio, the Bible says that we are as Dirty Rags to Him. But you know what, we may be an ant  in this huge world but God loves us. He really does.

I truly believe that what God wants more than anything from us is humility. The Bible says that we must humble ourselves to Him.  Look what happened in the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus. The rich man had it all but Lazarus was just an ant. He was a nobody and he had to beg for his food. When they both died, the rich man went to hell because he believed in his wealth and not in God but Lazarus never lost his faith even though he suffered on this earth. The Bible says that the rich man begged lazarus to give him just a drop of water so he could refresh his tongue but what did Abraham say, "When you were on the earth you had everything and Lazarus had nothing". Basically he told him that it was his time to suffer.

So here is the meat of this story. If you are an ant, be happy and trust in God. One day you will be rewarded. Don't fell like an outcast, as long as you serve God, you are going to be rewarded. Never allow yourself to wish to be like some famous celebrity like Britney Spears or Denzel Washington because one day even they will be judged and we are all going to be judged equally.

When my father died, my more said something that I will never forget. She said, "Bob built many buildings, he drove hundreds of thousands of miles visiting churches raising money for mission,  He purchased a lot of land for the ministry and at the end he has build a huge mission but when he died the only thing he could take with him was what he had done for the Lord."

Don't be ashamed of feeling like an ant in this huge world, just be an ant that is serving God.
